Completed in September 1999, SCH were involved from the outset of this project to extend and substantially covert this 1930s eight storey office building into a nightclub and entertainment venue.
The practice worked as the Landlord’s Architect on the shell and core development of this unique project and then alongside Big Beat, a restaurant/ club end user on the fit out of the nightclub.
The completed building was one of our first ‘Fire Engineered’ solutions to resolve the complicated and contradictory nature of maximising occupational numbers and life safety. Dramatic open spaces with a draw bridge and revolving stage were incorporated.
This ‘public’ interior wall was expressed via a large multi media screen facing Leicester Square. Later in 2003 we were commissioned by MTV to convert the lower floors into a live broadcast studio. The technical aspect of the project were considerable and overcome with innovative acoustic solutions.
