The site is located on the east side of Moorgate. It abuts Moorgate Place to the north and east, and Great Swan Alley to the south. It lies within Bank Conservation Area and is not Listed. To the east is Thomas Belcher’s Grade II* Listed, Institute of Accountants.
Our proposal was to refurbish, re-clad and extend the building to bring it up to modern standards of specification for office accommodation. The existing building is described by Pevsner as a “facsimile of 19 century office building. It is tired and dated.” The strong urban context and predominance of Portland stone, led to a decision to use limestone in this context. The proposed façade to Moorgate Place was to be highly decorated brick façade, subordinate and complimentary to the Institute of Accountants.
